A New Working Title For Darren’s Musical

After much reflection, I am now thinking about the title ‘Mary’s Boys’ for my new musical about the Mary Stanford Lifeboat Disaster. This will allow a little bit of intrigue as well as explain what the musical is about.

The scenes and structure have now been completed. The songwriting is going well and I am hoping to start working with some top-notch musicians soon to make sure it makes sense musically.

Darren Vallier meets Geoff Hutchinson

As part of my ongoing research on the Mary Stanford Lifeboat Disaster, I had the pleasure of meeting Geoff Hutchinson yesterday – author of The Mary Stanford Disaster (ISBN 0951993615). This is the book that I purchased back in 1993 and kept coming back to as a possible musical idea but didn’t know how to recreate it for the stage.

It is a truly inspirational and moving story. Worth checking out.

We chatted about the tragic events on 15th November 1928 and shared ideas regarding my current musical project ‘A Pocketful Of Rye’.
Tired yet inspired, I went home and wrote a possible uptempo number for the second act.

Darren Vallier is currently working on a new musical inspired by the Mary Stanford Lifeboat Disaster which took place in Rye in 1928. The working title is ‘A Pocketful Of Rye’.
